A timeline for sleep: what to expect as your baby ages.

The first few weeks – these can be tough. It’s normal for your baby to feed eight to 12 times every 24 hours, so it’s hard to get a decent sleep at this time. It’s normal to feel exhausted, but remember your baby will feed less often and sleep for longer as they grow.

3 to 6 months - as your baby grows, they’ll feed less frequently at night and sleep for longer. By about four months your baby will spend twice as much time asleep at night as they do during the day. Look forward to eight hours of sleep a night or more.

6 to 12 months - by this stage it is likely your baby won’t need to feed during the night, and some babies even manage to sleep for up to 12 hours at a stretch. Watch out for teething pain as this can wake some babies during the night.
