The burning question for many women is "how much weight will I gain?". The truth is we’re all different, and each pregnancy is different. There are approximate guides around how much weight you can expect to gain, but
there are many other factors to consider so it’s hard to predict.
Some women will actually lose a little weight in their first trimester if they suffer from morning sickness. Don't worry too much. As long as you stay well hydrated and try to get some food down, things should settle.
Over the whole pregnancy a woman starting out with a healthy weight can expect to gain around 12 to 16 kilograms.
Again, this does vary, especially as it depends on your size before the pregnancy, and if you’re carrying more than one baby. If you’d like more of a personal estimate on appropriate weight gain you can ask your lead maternity carer.
