Baby Foods: The Wattie’s promise

WATTIE'S Baby Foods are specially prepared for babies to offer variety in taste and texture for each stage of your baby's development.

WATTIE'S baby food has been a trusted solution for parents since the 1950's and offers a wide range of foods that includes everything from pureed fruits and vegetables to specially prepared meals and desserts.

We prepare all our foods according to the Ministry of Health: Food and Nutrition Guidelines For Healthy Infants and Toddlers in New Zealand 1 and the Food Standards Australia and New Zealand (FSANZ) regulations.

All WATTIE'S baby food recipes are also approved by Plunket and WATTIE'S Independent Infant Nutrition Advisory Group (INAG) – they check the ingredients, the nutrients, and the taste!

We do not add preservatives, artificial colours or flavours to baby food and no sugar or salt2 is added to fruits, vegetables or meals.

WATTIE'S Baby Foods are produced using methods that allow for some ingredients to be introduced earlier than when they are prepared at home (e.g. cooked or heat treated dairy products, finely ground meats and some fruits and vegetables).

What You See Is What You Get
WATTIE'S Baby Foods are clearly labelled and packaged to ensure the highest standards of safety and the clearest information. For example, you will find a tick list on the label or box which states what is – and what is not – in the food. This helps to identify the suitability of foods for your baby.

No artificial colours, flavours and preservatives.
All WATTIE'S baby foods are free from artificial colours, flavours and preservatives.

No added salt.
Salt (sodium) occurs naturally in a variety of foods. A mixed diet will provide the sodium a baby requires without the need of any extra. Too much salt can be harmful, as a baby’s immature kidneys cannot regulate the unwanted salt. Salt is not added to any WATTIE'S baby foods and the level of naturally occurring sodium is kept within strict limits.

No added sugar.
No sugar is added to WATTIE'S baby foods except for a small amount in custards for taste and texture.

Suitable for vegetarians.
WATTIE'S have a range of varieties to suit vegetarian babies.

Allergies

  • Egg free- Egg is one of the foods that may cause food allergy in a few susceptible babies. Therefore varieties are highlighted as being egg free where appropriate. Only egg yolk is used in WATTIE'S baby foods because it is the egg white that is most likely to cause an allergic reaction.

  • Milk and lactose free - Some babies and children are intolerant to the protein or the lactose in cows' milk. For this reason, there are varieties within the WATTIE'S range which are milk and lactose free.

  • Gluten free- The WATTIE'S range of baby foods include varieties which are gluten free and these are clearly identified on product labels.

Safety
All WATTIE'S Baby Food jars have 2 safety features for double protection.
  • A tamper evident safety seal with a tear-off-tab that must be removed before opening the jar, and

  • A Safety Button that pops up if the lid has been opened.
